Our School The Yupparaj Wittalayai School was the first government school in Chiang Mai. The land for the school was donated by Her Royal Highness Princess Jao Dararasamee and Prince Intarawarorot Suriyawong, former rulers of Chiang Mai. King Rama the Fifth founded the school in 1899, naming it “Demonstration School of the Payap Region.” On December 24th 1905 The Prince Regent visited the school and changed the name to “Yupparaj Wittalayai” (Yupparaj College). This date is now celebrated as the beginning of the school. Traditional dancers in the reception ceremony to their Majesties the King and Queen at the Yupparaj Wittayalai School field, 1958.
